A couple weeks ago I had the joy of watching my grandson Evan’s basketball games. As is often the case, it inspired some observations & musings I’d like to share.

Evan is already quite tall at age 13, and is on his way to what I think will be about 6’8”.
He’s developed his basketball skills with improvement each year, as one would expect. With each year of team and private coaching, he has grown. As I watched, I couldn’t help but notice a new level of proficiency to his play this season. His physical development and control were definitively escalated from previous years. He moved with a new elevated skill and confidence. It was as if he passed through a door into a new room of transformed competency and confidence.

I have seen this with my speaking and singing clients as well, when they have applied my coaching over time, and have practiced and grown into the techniques I have taught. There is a point where they have visibly and technically changed, and are at a new level of performance. It is a beautiful thing to see. It requires desire to grow and willingness to develop one’s abilities through practice and training.

Watching Evan was such a delightful experience for this grandpa; and to see him leveling up was a powerful bonus. As we truly invest in, focus on and apply ourselves to personal growth, the results bring rich rewards. By the way, Evan and his team won all their games that day and won the Tournament Championship. Bravo, Evan! We’ll done!
